Poor Charlie came to us as a shelter pull. His parents underwent a divorce and unfortunately Charlie was dumped during that divorce and separated from his two siblings. As you can probably understand being ripped from your home and then put in a place you don't know away from your family must be a super scary thing for Charlie. Because of this he has been experiencing some separation anxiety and crate anxiety because he just wants to be with his people for fear that he will be abandoned again. Charlie does great with the other dogs in his home ans adores his foster parents. Charlie needs a compassionate and dedicated person who is willing to put in the training and consistency to help Charlie thrive in a new home!
Socialization/training: Charlie has had a really rough go at life. He has severe separation anxiety. He is extremely food motivated but still learning how to be a dog. He is not left unsupervised as he is not fully trustworthy. He loves all people and just wants to be with you all of the time.
Crate trained: Crate training is a work in progress. As mentioned above he has severe separation anxiety to the point where he was injuring himself on the crate. He is on medication to assist and we are seeing some improvement with the crate.
Leash trained: He is not sure about the leash but doesn’t react to others while on the leash. With more walks we are sure he will grow more confidence in walking on a leash.
Activity Level: He has burst of energy and loves playing with other dogs but after a bit he’s cool just to lay on the couch with his humans and watch tv.
Fence: Fence required. He is an escape artist and found weaknesses in his fosters fence. He will slide out of the bottom of the fence if not secured.
Behavior: Very goofy pup who loves human attention. He wants to be cuddling with you all the time. He is going to need someone to be patient with him and work on his training to help him blossom into the best dog he can be.
Medical History: He is currently on gabapentin for anxiety and an antibiotic cream (for wound on his head from crate).
Foster Comments: This pup is a special boy. He can be a bit of a challenge but in his heart he is a good boy. He needs someone who will be patient with him and help him learn to be a dog. Continuing training will be crucial for him.
Yesterday may have been Thanksgiving but Charlie would be so happy to be adopted before Christmas so he can spend the holiday with his forever family!
