In celebration of National Catahoula day meet LouAnne! LouAnne (also known as Lucy or Annie) came to us from a Texas shelter with some significant health issues the volunteers worked tirelessly to help get her out of Texas and into a rescue that could care for her special needs. Now that she is on the mend she is ready to start the search for her forever home!

Socialization/training: LouAnne passed her temperament test with flying colors when she was first picked up in Texas. She is very happy to meet all people and very gentle in her greetings. She is happy to meet other dogs. When LouAnne came to us, she had no training, but is a very fast learner. She knows sit and come hand signals. I know she will only continue to learn and become an exceptional dog.

Crate trained: Yes, LouAnne is currently crated at night. Going into her crate is not her favorite thing, but after just a few minutes she is always fast asleep.

Leash trained: LouAnne walks well on a leash with only an occasional pull, but is very easily directed.

Activity Level: LouAnne just wants to be your couch potato and porch sitting best friend. LouAnne plays for a few minutes at a time independently with her tennis ball and then she’s back to wanting to snuggle.

Fence: LouAnne currently has a fenced yard, but would do fine on a leash with short walks. LouAnne doesn’t do much running around or exploring in the yard. She usually goes to the bathroom and then is ready to sit and watch the breeze blow by on the porch.

Behavior: LouAnne is exceptionally sweet and gentle. She’s a classic family dog that is content just being around her people. LouAnne has been great with large dogs (no other sizes observed), children, and people of all ages. LouAnne does have a prey drive that causes her to want to chase squirrels and cats, but she is very easily redirected. With training, there’s a possibility this could improve. LouAnne has been very calm watching kids roller skate passed her and watching families walk their dogs and push their strollers. LouAnne came to us with essentially no training, but you would never know it with how calm and easy she is. She is a very well adjusted girl with absolutely no anxiety. LouAnne has never demonstrated any kind of aggression or resource guarding.

Health: LouAnne came to us with two septic joints that are now completely clear of infection. Her front leg will return to normal, however her back leg was infected for so long it ate away at her hock joint. This has left LouAnne with some arthritis in that joint and she will need to be on pain meds the remainder of her life to keep her happy and comfortable. LouAnne will be completing PT and receiving magnawave therapy to help her get all healed up for her forever family.
