Bart came to us from a shelter where he did not have a good chance to be adopted due to his disability. We're so glad we were able to transfer him to us where we can find him a loving home equipped to deal with his special needs.

Socialization: Bart is a sweet boy who loves people and plays really well with the other dogs in his foster home. At his age it is very important to continue socialization through fear periods so he continues to develop into a healthy, well rounded boy!

Crate trained: Bart is crate trained and does well in a crate but he may bark for a little bit after he is first put in it. Continued positive reinforcement of his crate and consistency of crate training in his new home will have him able to be safely crated while owners are not able to observe him.

Leash Trained: Bart does not have a lot of experience walking on a leash but his foster is working on his leash manners and he is such a smart boy I am sure he will catch on quickly.

Activity level: Bart is a high energy herding mix. He will need an active family and lots of physical and mental stimulation in order to continue to be a happy and healthy boy! He would make an excellent running or hiking buddy!

Fence: Due to his breed a fence is highly recommended for Bart because of the amount of energy he will need to burn off to not become destructive or mentally bored. If you plan to take him for daily runs or hikes he may be okay without a fence but he would need to always be on a leash if not in a fenced in area.

Behavior: Right now Bart is all puppy, loves to play and rough house and will sometimes bark when excited. He likes to chew on bones but does have some resource guarding with high value items (which is common with shelter dogs) so this will be something that should be worked on with him to ensure it doesn't progress. This breed is known to herd people so he would do best with a young, active family with no small children or elderly people that he could easily knock down. Cattle dogs are very loyal, intense and high drive breeds he would excel in a sport home who wants to get involved with dog sports like agility, fastcat, dock diving, or herding.

Bart is an amazing young dog with his whole life ahead of him! If you think he would be a good fit for your family please fill out an application at https://pinkheartrescue.org/dog-adoption/
