Socialization/training: Paris is a lap dog through and through. She enjoys being held and cuddled by all humans, and is happiest when she's lying at your feet or in your lap. She is well trained in the house and on a leash. She does not chew or destroy anything. She let my family pick her up and holler around instead of a backpack for hours without complaint. She loves going on car rides, and is happiest when she's laying out in the sun. Overall, I lovely lazy companion will be happy to go with you wherever life takes you.
Crate trained: Paris is in a crate overnight and when we are working between 4 to 6 hours a day. She will bark occasionally when spooked, but quite quickly and sleeps well. She does have occasional urinary accidents as outlined above, but these also may be related to her current UTI that is being treated with antibiotics. I think she would prefer to be sleeping in the bed with her human, but she does well in her crate.
Leash trained: Paris walks great on a leash, but because she's blind and old and lazy. She's pretty slow and doesn't go too far before needing a rest or a nap. She never pulls, has never shown any signs of stranger danger or reactivity.
Activity Level: Truly cat energy in the forum of a tiny dog. She just wants to lay in the Sun and sleep, preferably pressed up against you. She's not that interested in playing with my medium size dog, but I think she is a bit intimidated by the size and difference as well as energy and level difference She does get fun little bursts of energy. Maybe once a day, where she wants to play with a tug toy or go for a walk. Otherwise, she's the laziest couch potato you'll ever find.
Fence: Not required but if she does not have a fence she will need to be on a leash at all times. Because she is blind, she does need some help finding the yard initially but once she knows the route she's good about going out and back in unaccompanied in a fenced in yard.
Behavior: Lazy, low maintenance, snugly, calm, goofy. She does like to be next to you, but once she's sleeping she's definitely not getting up to follow you. She's happy to lay on the couch next to you or on the floor at your feet. Always looking forward to greeting new guests and exploring new spaces.
Medical History: Paris came to us with a UTI that is resolving, and her urinary issues have greatly improved so far. She is completely blind and her eyes have been removed due to untreated glaucoma. She is an elderly dog, but recently had a vet checkup with a lot of blood work done that was reassuring. She does have some old lady lumps and cysts but the doctors have checked them all and deemed them to be benign.
Foster Comments: A wonderful companion dog for someone looking for a flexible pup that's always going to keep you company without asking too much in return. She has been the first small, elderly, blind dog that I've gotten to Foster, and it's been a joy to be able to include her in so many parts of my life that my other dog is far too large and rambunctious to tolerate. She definitely won't make your life more active, but she will make it more full with her silly spurts of energy and happy rolls in the sun. I think she could get along in any household looking for another member of the family and is open to having a peaceful elderly pup join them.
