We pulled Clara from a shelter where all of her siblings but her and one other passed away due to illness. We are so glad she pulled through and was able to land with us to find her a forever home that is equipped to love and care for her forever. Below is her bio which has information about Clara from her foster mom.
Socialization/training: Clara is just a ball full of sweet puppy! If you want a cute cuddly dog, Clara is your girl! If you sit down, she is likely to come find your lap and stay as long as you let her. She will follow you and be by your side. She isn’t the fondest of the cold weather and snow that Indiana has had lately, but she is accepting of putting on a sweater or coat to go do her business outside. Clara will also enjoy laying in front of your heat vent to stay nice and warm. She is very food motivated, sometimes too food motivated and makes it hard to train, but she is eager to learn. She knows sit, come, and spin. She is working on down, stay, and wait. Clara seems to be happy around all people and all sizes of dogs. She is housebroken and working on using potty bells by the door to notify humans of need to go out.
Crate trained: As of 3 months old, she is doing amazing in a crate! She seems to like the coziness of a plastic crate or a wire crate with soft bedding and a blanket over it. At night she settles in well and rarely makes a noise. During the day, she may take 5 minutes to settle in, but with the help of a rubber chew toys, she just plays before falling asleep. She doesn’t chew, scratch or bark in the crate unless she has to go potty. Overnight she is currently sleeping 7-8 hours, during the day she is in her crate 3-4 hours at a time. It only took her 2 days to learn how to keep a dry crate! At this age, I wouldn’t leave her unsupervised without a crate.
Leash trained: This is a work in progress for Clara since we haven’t had much opportunity to leash train with the cold and snow. She seems inquisitive and wants to smell all the things, but doesn’t go after other dogs, wildlife or people when on a leash. She does do some zig zagging but it seems to be mostly puppy silly energy vs any sort of reactivity.
Activity Level: Clara’s current activity level is all puppy. She really does have 2 speeds and they are 100 MPH or crash and cuddle. The size of other canine friends doesn’t seem to bother her as she does well at play dates with other dogs of her size, and will also keep up with her 40 & 60 pound canine foster siblings. She loves toys, the bigger the better, and has recently learned to chase/fetch a ball to burn off some energy inside.
Fence: Fence would not be required for Clara but she would need lots of exercise on leash. Her foster home has a privacy fence, and has had no issue so a fence would be preferred.
Behavior: Clara is a playful goofball! She loves and gets along with all humans and dogs she has met. She is an absolute cuddle extraordinaire! She definitely still has a lot of puppy energy, but also has a calm sweet side to her as well.
Medical History: Clara is deaf. She seems to be able to hear very high pitch sounds, like a siren, but not much else. Her eyes do point outward slightly, but it doesn’t appear to affect her vision. Her tail is slightly misshapen but doesn’t seem to cause her any pain. We are unaware if it was a break before she came to us, or a birth defect.
