Name: Kenobi
Gender: Male
Birthdate: 5/30/22
Breed: Border Collie (ABCA registered)
Weight: 57lbs
Disability: Deaf
Dogs: yes
Cats: yes
Kids: kids 8 and older
Socialization/training: Kenobi is well behaved in the house and learns boundaries quickly. He enjoys people and dogs, but is a little shy at first. Kenobi does not seem to have had much in the line of obedience training, but will be a quick study and is anxious to please. Kenobi grew up as a farm dog in Texas, but being deaf, the working dog life was not safe for him. He has had exposure to horses and sheep. He hasn’t shown any resource guarding tendencies and doesn’t have a mean bone in his body.
Crate trained: Kenobi is wonderful in his crate and spends the night comfortably. He settles quickly when in there, lying down and going right to sleep. During the day, if we leave the house, Kenobi stays in our kitchen where he has more room while still being enclosed, but he’d be fine in the crate then, too.
Leash trained: We have rarely had Kenobi on the leash. I do not know if he is reactive (although, based on his reactions to our house rabbit, I would guess he is) and he does pull moderately. He needs more leash practice.
Activity Level: This guy has a huge activity-level range! He seems to be as happy lounging around quietly with older adults as he is darting through the yard with his very perky doggy pals. Although he is surrounded by toys of every material, shape, and purpose, he does not seem interested in them at all (much to the chagrin of his foster siblings).
Fence: We have not experienced any attempts to escape from our fences, but a sturdy fence is highly (highly!) recommended for anyone who is not committed to walking Kenobi on a leash multiple times a day. He is young and he is a farm-raised Border Collie, so getting enough exercise for his body and mind is a must!
Behavior: Kenobi is super affectionate and sweet. He seems to enjoy being with everyone he meets, human, canine, and feline. He is quiet, inquisitive, a pack player, and eager to please. He presents as cautious initially, but warms up very quickly. If you want a pup who will be your shadow no matter your lifestyle or activity level, Kenobi is the guy for you.
