Breed: Australian Shepherd

Weight: 40lbs

Disability: Deaf

Dogs: yes

Cats: yes

Kids: yes

Socialization/training: Pippin is such a great girl and steals the heart of everyone she meets, both dog and human. She tries the charm with the 3 cats she lives with, but they wont budge on the “cats rule and dogs drool” rule. Pippin has zero aggressions towards other animals or people. She would be the perfect deaf dog to just about any home. She is not a resource guarder. She knows the commands for: sit, down, come, in, place, and no. She also knows how to do an agility hurdle and tunnel. She would likely make a good agility or rally dog. Pippin is very well behaved in the house. She is a quick learner. Pippin is great in the car, for baths, and for nail trims.

Crate trained: Pippin is crate trained. She will gladly go in when it’s time to be put up with very minor bribes from treats. She currently is fed in her crate and knows to go in and wait for her food too. She knows that if you point to the kennel, it means to go in. She does settle pretty quickly but may experience regression when first transitioning to a new environment. Pippin is currently good in her kennel for 8-10 hours while her foster parents are at work, she does also sleep in it at night but over time, could likely sleep in bed or in a bedroom with her people at night. Oftentimes, Pippin can be heard playing with her toys in her kennel in the early hours of morning. Pippin is not at a point where she can be trusted without a kennel when you leave as she is still so young.

Leash trained: Pippin is leash trained and does very well with a front clip harness. She has been briefly introduced to leash pressure and that when you stop, she must stop and sit too. Pippin is just overall very easy going when out and about, she does think everyone was put on this earth for her though.

Activity Level: As long as Pippin’s physical and mental requirements are met, she really is content to just lay on the couch with you or at your feet while you work. She does currently spend about 1-2 hours in the morning and night just running around and playing with her dog friends. She also loves to work on her obedience skills at night before bed. She loves to chase a ball and go for walks too.

Fence: Pippin will need either a fenced in yard or a home with an invisible fence where she can run and burn off any pent up herding breed energy. She loves nothing more than to play chase with her friends outside and wrestle. She doesn’t care to be outside by herself but does not try to escape or dig out of the current 5 foot fence she lives in.
