Socialization/training: Junji arrived to our care as an owner surrender. After her previous owner had a baby, the other dog in the home began bullying Junji. Junji knows sit, crate, come, and down, although she sometimes is too excited to listen. She is nervous and jumpy around new people but calms down quickly once she gets to know them. I get the feeling this is due to her visual deficit, as it just takes a good sniff and a pet and she is at ease. She is so gentle and kind and would do well with kids of all ages. She is eager to learn and please, and picks up quickly on the rules of the house. She does not have any bad habits like chewing, destroying blankets/toys, or jumping up on furniture. She did counter surf when we first got her but was quick to pick up on the hand signal for no, and hasn’t since then. She loves the company of dogs, cats, and humans and would work well with any canine companion. Junji has been around farm animals in her previous home and also done fine, a farm life would also be okay for this girl.

Crate trained: Junji sleeps beautifully overnight and doesn’t make a peep. It takes her about 10 minutes to settle in when she is crated during the day, especially if she can see you because she just wants to be by your side. She takes naps in her crate with the door open and enjoys keeping her chew toys in there for when she is relaxing.

Leash trained: She walks great on a leash, very little pulling at all with minimal training! She is very interested in smells and wants to stop every 5 feet to investigate, but otherwise is wonderful. Gets a little nervous when passing other humans or dogs but is not reactive/loud and recovers quickly. I think she would likely grow out of this as she becomes more used to being out and about.

Activity Level: The ideal activity level. She is down to play whenever, but quickly calms and knocks out for a nap when given the chance. Always excited to see you first thing in the morning and will run around on tippy toes to tell you hello. She enjoys long walks but doesn’t need more than a few blocks to be ready to relax.

Fence: Not necessary--she prefers to be with humans or other dogs when outside anyway.

Behavior: Junji is so sweet, goofy, and playful. She hasn’t met a living thing that she isn’t interested in getting to be friends with, including humans, dogs, and cats. She plays wonderfully with our resident dog who has very strict boundaries and is respectful in leaving her alone when cues are given. She loves to play chase with the cat and is gentle with him, as if she knows her size could hurt him. She will seek you out for pets and give you the sweetest, softest face and hand kisses. She will follow you room to room and lay at your feet when you are relaxing. She is the only foster that our resident dog has grown to enjoy being around, which says a lot about her respectful temperament and eagerness to learn and please.

Foster Comments: Junji is one of the best foster pups we have had so far. We are continually surprised by how gentle and smart she is, and are so amazed she has made our own dog open up to canine companionship! I think she would be a wonderful addition to any home but would likely prefer one that has an opportunity for her to interact with other pups on a regular basis, as she is very social.
