Socialization/training: Winter was found as a stray and taken to a small but very high-kill shelter in Georgia. When space was running low and euthanasia was on the table, they reached out to us for help. Despite her limited history, you can definitely tell she’s accustomed to the home life at some point. She loves every dog she meets and doesn’t seem to meet a stranger. Can be shy in certain situations but has no hesitation to jump right up on someone’s lap for love. Generalized training is being worked on. Winter is house trained as long as she’s on a strict schedule. She is very eager to please her humans. As with all walks of life, Winter loves cats even. If the cats do not love her, she very well knows her boundaries.
Crate training: She will willingly go into her crate but stirs for a few minutes & sometimes will cry but stops and settles fairly quickly now. Continued positive reinforcement training will be a must.
Leash training: When Winter first entered the rescue she would halt on a leash & refuse to move, had to be carried everywhere. Now, she will walk with ease & actually seems to enjoy walks now! She loves to go outside but does not want to go potty when on a leash, so she will need a yard for that or continued training.
Activity level: Moderate to higher energy. Winter leans on her foster dog siblings for her confidence and would play all day if they’d keep going. She also is willing to lay down and nap all day if that’s what you wanted. She would thrive with dog siblings in the home as they help her thrive and help her burn her energy. She is a typical Border Collie but hasn’t displayed any herding behaviors that would get her into trouble.
Fence: Winter will need a yard to run to her hearts desire. She prefers to be outside more than inside. She loves to run & play. Winter will not use the bathroom on a leash currently so a fenced in backyard is a must.
Behavior: Winter is the absolute sweetest girl her foster has ever met, she has a heart of gold. She loves to snuggle & be with her people. She craves human attention, she will curl up in a ball right next to her person but also lay directly on top of them to get pets. She has a lot of puppy energy and needs to be able to burn it all off to settle down but she is truly the sweetest girl. She will just melt in your lap and will make it hard to stop petting her. All she wants is love and will reciprocate the same love back. She is truly an amazing girl & will be the perfect addition to just about any family.
