Socialization/training: Ready to meet the happiest dog on planet earth? Maybe you’ve been eyeing our page and looking for a good “entry level” special needs dog for the first time dog owner or beginner. Look no further. Zelda came to us an an owner surrender out of Texas and made her way up to Indiana. Zelda is starting to learn touch commands and is quick to do so if a good meaty treat is offered. She is good with all ages and genders. Her play style is very puppy-like with an open mouth (never bites down) and swatting paws. Zelda may be better with sturdier children or children used to being around dogs because of her puppy-like play style may catch a young child off guard. She is simply an all around happy girl who is well behaved on walks and in the house. It appears that Zelda has been in a few homes in her short life, and her foster family has no clue why since she is such an incredibly sweet dog.
Crate trained: Yes but needs 5-10 minutes to settle down. A plastic crate or airline style crate suits her needs best. I believe the more she settles in to our home and routine, the less time it will take her to settle down in her kennel. Once she is in her crate and settled, she is wonderful. Zelda is typically crated for 4-6 hour time blocks, and could probably do more. She does prefer a light on at nighttime, and not to know you are around. She has been left semi supervised in a room for 2-3 hours and has caused no mischief.
Leash trained: Zelda is a happy, sweet walker. Put on a harness and she knows it is walkies
time. She doesn’t pull unless there is a good smell. Keep her on a shortened leash so she
doesn’t run into things, and it will be an enjoyable walk for all.
Activity Level: She is a great mix of active and lazy. She is ok with 1-2 15 minute slow walks a
day. Zelda doesn’t tend to initiate play inside, but if she knows there is a toy there, she will play
like a puppy. She loves to curl up in a corner or along a wall for a nice long snooze. If she finds
you on the couch she would love to join you.
Fence: Fence: Not required. She does extremely well on a leash and is not overly active. If in a fenced area, she just wanders around for a few minutes before laying by her people, or wherever she catches a good scent.
Behavior: Zelda is an absolute sweetheart! She has not barked while in her foster home. The
only noise she makes is when rough house playing or settling into crate time. She loves to play
with a human who has a cloth toy or cuddle up next to you. She follows you around if she can
smell you and is easily directed to where she needs to go if she doesn’t find you first.
